UNTITLED:
I never saw it coming…the night that changed my life, the night I lived- the night I lost her. People tell me she was an amzing women, who never failed to surprise…I will never know. She was cruelly ripped from this life, from her husband and from me. I don’t deserve to live, she was protecting me from the imbicile swerving into the rear of our car. Swerving towards me.
Coming home from a birthday party, I was telling her about my escapades. The jungle gym designed like a jungle, the ball pit that swallowed you whole, the slide that went on forever. “I don't wanna leave yet” I protested.
“We have to sweetie, Daddy is waiting for us…he has a surprise for you at home. He was working on it ALL day. Don’t you want to see what it is?”
“A SURPRISE!!!” My 5 year old body ran it’s legs to the car as fast as it could. The next 15 minutes of talk is boring…aimless chatter between us. In that moment, I couldn't be happier...I was going home to see my Daddy who has something for me! I never thought that Mommy would never make it home to see the completed project. It was late at night, the stars were out and it was a full moon. Mommy once told me that If I looked close enough, I could see a face in the moon. She told me it's where all the mommies and daddies and brothers and sisters go when they leave us. She said that's where Nonna Maria and Nonno Dominic are. Looking for the moon, I almost missed what destroyed my life forever.
Bright light clouded my vision, I froze under it’s intense glare, waiting for the impact to shatter me. It all happened so fast, I don't remember the details much. I felt someone put a barrier in front of me, protecting me from the impending crash. Then I felt it. The body around me clutched harder,it made me feel safe. Ironic huh? I was knocked frontwards, backwards, and side to side. My head moving every which direction…nausea settling upon me. I heard the shattering of glass and the collision of metal. Like rocks, falling violently down the side of a mountain, the sounds ricocheting off the crevasses. And a scream…more terrible than you can imagine. It was the cry of death. Not by me, but my protector. “MOMMY!!!!!”
When I was hauled out of the car, I looked around for her. For my Mommy that was no longer by my side. The man who took me out of the car told me that they were trying to fix up my Mommy real good, so that she can live. I started to cry...Mommy was hurt? Where is she? She told me she wouldn't leave me! I guess as an attempt to calm me down, the man gave me his hat. It was too big for me, but i couldn't see what was in front of me, so I guess that was a good thing.
Everyday, I wake up praying that night was just a horrible dream. Something that can never happen. But then I realize I lost my mother and my life will never be the same again.
